Is investing in REITs better than investing in other stock sectors? Any long term data that compares the performance of the REIT industry to the SP&500 for example?- Rken - 2019-04-16 06:38:25 PDT

REITs offer good diversification from the overall stock market, but also being diversified within the different REIT sectors also helps keep a balanced portfolio. I love investing in REITs, because as many REIT investors like to say "It is a business I can understand." But not only that, when comparing REITs to other investment options I think NAREIT.com put it best "REITs have typically provided strong total returns: over the past 25 years (roughly the “modern REIT era”), for example, total returns for REITs have averaged 9.94 percent per year, slightly better than the broad stock market at 9.65 percent per year according to the Russell 3000 and 9.59 percent per year according to the S&P 500." https:www.reit.com/news/blog/market-commentary/reit-beta-property-type-most-reit-sectors-have-brought-down-portfolio - Sem_Sem - 2019-06-11 20:59:31 PDT

I can find higher dividend rates with more steady return in an industry I can better understand. - Muchomas - 2019-04-19 13:09:15 PDT

Does anyone else get the feeling that the REIT market and other sectors like tech move in the opposite direction? I haven't researched this, but it seems to me that on days which the S&P and Dow are green, VNQ, RMZ, and IYR are red. I'm not sure why that is, and I know it is not always the case, but some days it appears investor are removing capital from one segment and investing in the other. - Atopp - 2019-04-16 22:12:12 PDT
